Schauffele Leads After First Round of Wells Fargo Championship

American golfer Xander Schauffele has won the gold medal in the men's golf competition at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Schauffele shot a 4-under 67 in the final round to finish with a total score of 268, three strokes ahead of Slovakian Rory Sabbatini and Chinese Taipei's C.T. Pan.

It is the first Olympic medal for Schauffele, who turned professional in 2015. He has seven PGA Tour victories to his credit, including the 2019 Tournament of Champions and the 2020 Tour Championship.

Schauffele's victory comes just days after he took a three-shot lead after the opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He shot a 64 on Thursday, putting him three strokes ahead of Max Homa and Mito Pereira.
