IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report: A Call to Action

Synthesis Report Released, Providing Crucial Scientific Input

Urgent Action Needed to Reduce Emissions and Adapt to Climate Change

INTERLAKEN, Switzerland - March 20, 2023 - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has completed its latest comprehensive report, the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). The Synthesis Report, released on March 20th, 2023, provides policymakers with a comprehensive scientific assessment of climate change and its impacts.

The report is based on the work of hundreds of scientists who spent years conducting research and reviewing existing literature. It paints a stark picture of the current state of the climate crisis and the urgent need for action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The Synthesis Report highlights that human influence has already measurably warmed the atmosphere, ocean, and land. Extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, and tropical cyclones are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change.

"There is no more time for complacency or delay," said Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC. "We must act now to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change and build a more sustainable future."

The report offers a roadmap for reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. It highlights the importance of investing in renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and reducing emissions from agriculture and land use change.

The IPCC also emphasizes the need for international cooperation and financial support to help developing countries reduce emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
